Disaster & Displacement: The Human Face of Climate Change
2200 Rayburn House Office Building, 2:00 PM-3:30 PMInfo/Map
Feb. 11, 2009
Climate change is expected to increase the frequency and severity of natural disasters, impacting livelihoods, natural resource supplies, and environmentally-induced migration. In a 2008 study by CARE, the likely humanitarian implications of climate change for the next 20-30 year period are explained. Using geospatial imagery, the anticipated “hotspots” and areas of vulnerable populations are identified. The panel shall present the results of this study within the larger context of environmental migration and public policy.
